• The perfect storm: Miami Hurricanes national champions 2001 [university publication]

  The publication "The perfect storm: Miami Hurricanes national champions 2001" was published by Sports Illustrated as a special commemorative issue.  [title page: The perfect storm: Miami Hurricanes: undefeated national champions 2001.]  The hard cover special collector's edition has a serial number 03173.

• Preserving U: University of Miami Hurricanes Heritage Campaign reports

  The collection Preserving U: University of Miami Hurricanes Heritage Campaign contains 7 reports written in 2005 by the Alumni Team, Campus Team, Campus Media Team, Iron Arrow Team (2 reports), Media Team, and Student Government Team. The campaign to collect memorabilia and preserve university history was a joint effort by Iron Arrow, the University of Miami libraries, the University of Miami Alumni Association, and Dr. Tilson's public relations campaigns classes.

• José Fernández Partagás Papers

  The José Fernández Partagás Papers consist of research materials on Atlantic and Caribbean hurricanes and storms since the 1800s, including manuscripts, publications, and personal memorabilia.

• Orange Bowl Committee Records

  Conceived in 1932 by the original Orange Bowl Committee, the Orange Bowl was created as a popular tourism attraction for the New Year's Festival in Miami that would attract national publicity and bring more businesses and money to South Florida. This venture proved successful as the Orange Bowl celebration grew in both size and popularity, becoming a national extravaganza with their lavish parades, annual football games, and beauty pageants, all in an effort to create the "world's greatest half-time spectacle." The first football game ever put on by the committee was in 1932 between the University of Miami Hurricanes and Manhattan College from New York City in what was then called the Festival of Palms Bowl. In 1935, the festival was renamed as the Orange Bowl and started featuring college football teams to participate based on their national rankings rather than offering a guaranteed position, and it was recognized by the NCAA as the first "official" Orange Bowl. The Orange Bowl stadium was created in 1937 to accommodate the game as well as the Miami Dolphins home games and several Super Bowls up until it was demolished in 2008, but it gained a prolific reputation as a local attraction during its lifespan in south Florida. The Orange Bowl Records contains documents, financial and administrative files, scrapbooks, photographs, ephemera, pamphlets, newsclippings, audiovisual material, and 3D objects pertaining to the Orange Bowl Committee and their archives.

• Biscayne Bay Collection

  The histories of Miami and Biscayne Bay are intimately related. In addition to food, industry, transportation and recreation, the Bay provides a constant source of aesthetic satisfaction to those who live and work along its shores. Biscayne Bay is a tropical lagoon, approximately 35 miles long and a maximum of 8 miles wide. It is geographically divided into three parts: North, Central and South Bay. The North Bay is the most urbanized, bordered on the east by barrier islands, including Miami Beach, and including the Miami business district. Central Bay, extending from Government Cut to the southern limits of Coral Gables, has been affected by bulkheading and canal discharges. South Bay, aside from the Cutler and Turkey Point power plants, has been less affected by human activity and includes the northwestern portion of the Biscayne National Park. Over 100 years ago, Hugh M. Smith of the U.S. Commission of Fish and Fisheries was dispatched to Biscayne Bay to determine whether the region was suitable for a marine hatching and experiment station. He found that "the water of Biscayne Bay is exceedingly clear. In no part can one fail to clearly distinguish objects on the bottom when the surface is not especially rough." Since that time, however, a century of natural phenomena, development and urbanization have profoundly affected the health and character of the Bay. Dredging and filling, sewage disposal, channel and canal building, flood control practices, hurricanes, and intense development of the shoreline have profoundly altered the waters. Information on the marine environment of Biscayne Bay is frequently requested by students, researchers, engineers, planners and the public. All the documents listed are available in the Library of the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami. Included are books, scientific articles, theses and dissertations, book chapters, conference proceedings, reports, videos, and government publications. The bibliography does not include newspaper articles, accounts of public hearings, personal correspondence or articles from popular boating and sports magazines. Besides nautical charts issued by the U.S. Defense Mapping Agency, only a few maps are cited.

• Florence Brigham papers

  The Florence Brigham Papers consist of four boxes of material totalling two cubic feet of files. The Papers include research materials Brigham compiled from numerous primary and secondary sources including articles and books, diaries, notes and other materials. Brigham also conducted interviews with early Keys residents, including many employees of the Federal East Coast Railroad Company. Newspaper clippings dated 1935-69 detail local history, "pioneers," hurricanes and other topics. In addition to these records, the files include correspondence with a number ofarchives and libraries, and photostats of original documents and maps. Brigham also collected prints of Marathon dated 1906-1960. The Papers include notes on Keys deer, birds, reptiles and other animals, as well as clippings and notes on schools, churches, fishing, libraries and other institutions and activities in the Keys. Historical material includes copies of early maps, records tracing the title of Keys lands, and materials documenting the construction of the "Overseas Railroad" and the development of Marathon.

• Miami magazine

  Miami magazine, directed toward alumni and friends of the University of Miami,  provides stories concerning research and teaching at the University.  Miami magazine, begun in 1989,  is published for alumni and friends of the University of Miami by the Division of University Communications and is distributed free of charge. • O, Miami collection

  The O, Miami collection holds memorabilia associated with the literary organization and their events and publications. The materials document many of the inventive techniques used to promote poetry during their annual O, Miami Poetry Festival, including poetry parking tickets and poems in the form of lottery scratch off tickets. Other events documented include the organization's visiting writers series, and their collaborations with Pages and Spreads, another local literary organization. The collection also includes chapbooks/zines that collect poems and writings from local Miami writers.

• Catalyst Miami records

  Founded in 1995 as the Human Services Coalition by Daniella Levine, Catalyst Miami is a non-profit community activist group. Utilizing a vast network of partner organizations and numerous initiatives, Catalyst seeks to equip the socially disadvantaged with financial and healthcare information, public benefits, and educational and economic opportunities. Through programs such as the Prosperity Campaign and Public Allies, Catalyst Miami promotes self-sufficiency, participation in civic life, organizational strength and respect. This collection contains seven series including: Administrative Files, Initiatives, Conference Materials, Audiovisual Materials, and more. Within these series are various forms of correspondence, training materials, schedules and agendas, promotional materials, newspaper articles and photographs. The documents help reveal the social activist nature of the organization and shed light on some of the many accomplishments it has made through the years.

• University of Miami bulletins
